Reasons Why You Should Visit Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design

Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design (ICAD) is an annual art exhibition that showcases contemporary Indonesian art and design works in various forms. This event aims to combine fine art, design, and creativity in the form of installations, performances, and collaborative works involving artists and designers from various disciplines. ICAD divides works into five categories, namely Special Appearance, In Focus, Featured, Open Submission, and Collaboration.

For Parekraf Friends, make sure not to miss this exhibition which will take place from October 10 to November 10, 2024 at the Grandkemang Hotel, Jakarta. Here are 5 reasons why Parekraf Friends should visit ICAD 2025.

One of the most prestigious exhibitions in Indonesia

ICAD is the first and only platform that initiates collaboration between various art fields in Indonesia. This platform is also one of the most prestigious events in the world of Indonesian art and design because it is able to increase the development of creativity, innovation and public appreciation of contemporary art.

Largest art and design exhibition

First held in 2009, ICAD has become a large-scale exhibition that promotes contemporary design and art in Indonesia. Each exhibition showcases multidisciplinary creatives, ranging from senior contemporary artists to young creators, collectives, or communities engaged in art, design, music and culture. There are more than 500 works of art and design from artists, designers, and creatives exhibited at ICAD which has organized more than 100 programs with collaborative partners. ICAD also opens the door for millions of art and design enthusiasts to be better known.

Platform for local and international artists

Although focusing on Indonesian talents, ICAD also invites international artists to participate. This provides an opportunity for local artists to interact with global trends, while introducing Indonesian artwork to the international world. Since 2017, ICAD has also contributed to bringing Indonesian designers and artists to prestigious platforms in Indonesia and abroad. For example, ICAD participated in the Superdesign Show at Milan Design Week and managed the Indonesian Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale and London Design Biennale.

Relevant annual themes

Each year, ICAD has a specific theme that underpins the works on display. This theme usually relates to relevant social, cultural or environmental issues. For example, previous themes have explored topics such as cultural identity, globalization or the relationship between humans and technology. This year, the 14th ICAD presents itself with the thought-provoking theme UNEXPECTED. This theme provides a platform for artists and designers to highlight the unexpected realities that occur in our society in the past, present and future.
